How ONE Ancient Word Might Just Change Your Life

By Alex On December 15, 2010 Under Uncategorized

I covered diet to a pretty solid extent HERE, but something’s happened recently that I haven’t EVER talked about, so I figured I’d let you in on it now. Let’s begin..

I am not a nutritionist, nor am I a diet expert.

I don’t claim to be and to be honest, I don’t think I’d wanna be — I know a ton of really well-known diet experts and they’re always arguing about the most minute things related to diet and nutrition. And while I’ve been called many things in my life, an “arguer” is not one.

I do know a thing or two-hundred about nutrition though, as it does go hand-in-hand with what I do and amongst the hundreds of cool things I could tell you about food and athletics, the most important thing I can tell you is if you’re an athlete and you take care of your body by putting the right foods in it, you will have a clear and obvious advantage over all of your competition, forever.

Pretty big claim, right? No worries though — it’s entirely true.

And to prove it you, I’m not gonna show you a bunch of studies or quote a bunch of experts…nope, instead, I’m going to do two things:

1) I’m going to challenge you to make SOME of the changes I talk about below in your own diet for 30 days and then you decide how much better you feel, perform and look.

2) I’m going to tell you about what’s happened to me the last couple months with my diet and how my body’s responded to it.

I’ve always been an EXTREMELY healthy and aware eater. I was always on top of what was going into my body, when it was going into my body — every macronutrient that entered my mouth had a planned out, logical reason, and it worked out pretty well.

I built muscle pretty consistently, had abs year-round and never got gassed in games. Things were good.

And I used to think that was as good as it got. You ate good and then your body returned the favor, by making you look, feel and move good.

It Took A Whole Bunch Of Bullshit For Me To Realize I Was Dead WRONG.

You see, about 6 months ago, I started experiencing some health issues. They were small at first and didn’t affect my vanity, so I, of course, ignored them and expected them to go away. They didn’t.

Instead, they got worse.

As someone who’s way past the “acne” phase of life, I started breaking out.

I hadn’t had a zit in 2 years and now I had 10. Weird.

And for years, people had always commented to me about this “glow” I emanate all the time and how they hadn’t really seen anything like that in other before (especially when I’d be talking about any of my major passions, since I really do get way into it).

And one of my friends who I hadn’t seen in a year or so saw me maybe 4 months ago and actually noticed that “glow” was missing. Would you believe that mofo had the courage to tell me “I looked a lot worse than normal”? Lol.

On top of that, my normal motivation and zest for life was dwindling. Some days it was there, some days I just felt tired, bored and like doing nothing. I even considered ending this business I run here because I didn’t think I was as passionate as before about it!

Can you believe that? Looking back at it now, I really can’t..

So with all of these things piling on and NOT going away, I tried a bunch of things to fix it. None of them worked.

I was stumped, frustrated and fed-up.

Then, one day this past October, a weird premonition came to me that it was my diet that was causing all of this, the same diet I hadn’t changed in years and had worked so well for me in the past.

It didn’t make a ton of sense to me and I had been trying minor diet changes recently to no avail, but something told me this was all diet-related and a nuclear bomb in the form of a near “elimination diet” was what I needed.

So I Went Paleo (the Ancient Word!)

The Paleo Diet (also known as the Caveman Diet) means you only eat readily available modern foods…you could also describe it as only eating things that were available to a caveman back in the Paleolithic Era.

So, it’d be meats, fishes, poultries, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and a few other things.

Now I chose this diet because there are a couple things we KNOW to be fact:

1) ALL people have some degree of allergies to everyday, processed foods than can manifest themselves in tons of different ways (this is likely the reason for any symptoms you’re feeling right now)

2) MOST people do NOT have allergies to the foods allowed on the Paleo Diet

And since I’m a proud member of the “do everything extreme persuasion”, I decided I’d cut out most carbs too in case my symptoms were related to higher glycemic foods (some studies have shown relationships, so that meant no fruit too).

Since this was such an immediate drastic change, I set it as a 30-Day Challenge for myself, told some close friends about it and even posted it on Facebook, to keep me accountable and focused.

Hardest one ended up being #2.

And then it was on.

Breakfast was ground beef, vegetables and sprouted almonds.

Lunch was salmon, vegetables and a couple spoonfuls right out of the coconut oil jar (tastes like Reno, Nevada).

Dinner was grilled chicken, more vegetables and walnuts.

And in between meals, if I was ever hungry, I snacked on beef jerky (purchased from USWellnessMeats.com — they kick ass (not literally, of course)), sunflower seeds, nuts and veggies.

Was it hard to keep? Kind of, not really.

I knew I just had to set this diet up as a new habit in my life — and habits takes roughly 30 days to set in, with the first 10 days being the hardest, so knowing that, I just really kicked life’s ass for those first 10 or so days and then everything from then on was smooth.

And now, let’s get on to what happened.

First of all, within a week, my symptoms started to go away. My skin began to clear up, my energy started to come back and I definitely glowed there a couple times that first week.

Fast-forward to Day 30, and my skin is 95% clear.

I NEVER get tired. I’m ALWAYS energized, excited, fired-up, even maybe jovial.

I feel GREAT.

Plus, besides getting rid of the symptoms, my strength went way up and my body-fat went even lower.

I haven’t measured a damn thing so I can’t give you any numbers, but it was like all of the sudden in those 30 days, my strength and size exploded and improved more in 30 days than it had for the last year!

Here’s that MySpace-esque pic I posted last week (these were taken around Day 20).

And then, just a couple weeks ago, I went back to my old stomping grounds to watch an old training client of mine play in a big high school basketball game (he’s a point guard and now ranked as one of the best in the Midwest) and while I was there, I caught the game with that same friend of mine who had the audacity just 4 months ago to tell me, “I looked a lot worse than normal.”

And you know the first darn thing he said to me?

“You’re f**king glowing dude.”

And then he tried to rub his arm against my elbow ’cause he “wanted some of it for himself.” Ha.

And just like that, I was back and WAY better than ever.

So What Does This Mean For You?

Like I said before, I want you take all of this with a grain of salt — don’t just take it as face value.

I was clearly struggling with some health issues before I changed my diet and that definitely played a role in how dramatic my transformation was.

I’m also not like most people — for better or worse, I have the ability to simply focus on whatever it is I want and just do it.

I ignore distractions, temptations and anything else that could hinder me from my end goal and I love it.

This can get me into trouble sometimes, but it can also be huge for me too. You might not be like this.

But above all of that, I strongly urge you to take a serious look at your current diet..

Are you eating too many processed foods?

Are you eating too many simple sugars? And are you eating them at the complete wrong times?

Are you eating enough protein? Enough good fats?

Do you ALWAYS feel energized, motivated and excited about what you’re doing?

How’s your sleep? Do you get good REM cycles in the night (you can usually tell if you have good, deep dreams)?

If you can’t answer positively to all of these questions, I can personally guarantee you you’re missing out on major results that could be yours.

I obviously can’t and won’t force you to do anything, but take note of my story and really consider your own diet and lifestyle. Take on my own 30-Day Challenge and make some positive changes to your diet and just try it out for 30 days…see what happens.

If it’s good, then great — money in the bank.

And if nothing changes (which isn’t likely), then whatever — at least you tried it.

And with that 30-Day Diet Challenge, you gotta check out the EXACT workout program I used for that entire time, The Dumbbell Disorder.

It’s brand new, uses a ton of my favorite “instant results” tricks and will make you a serious badass.

Plus, the darn thing is GUARANTEED to work for you (or your money back) — how’s that for confidence in a program?

I’d just hurry up and get over there now because The Dumbbell Disorder has to be “pulled off the shelves” just a few days from now, on December 21st.

Read all about it here:
